Hello! How are you? We have some news for you! On November 10th, Nicolás Robinson-García, Evaristo Jiménez-Contreras and Juan Gorraiz went to Valencia to participate in the “Situación y perspectivas del Acceso Abierto” (“Current state and prospects of Open Access”) conference. This day was organized by the UISYS group at the Universitat de València.
What was the conference about?
As we know, Open Access is a hot topic in the bibliometrics field right now, and evaluators of science are increasingly interested in the opportunities and challenges of this new path that science is taking (or wants to take). The main goal of the event was precisely to discuss those prospects: the different views on Open Access and the future challenge that this new approach to research poses to all the scientific world.
What did Juan, Evaristo and Nicolás talk about?
Juan’s presentation focused on «Myths, controversies and negative consequences of Open Access», Evaristo’s one was sceptically called «Science in the open: all advantages?”, and Nicolás spoke about what he considers to be the four main challenges that Open Access currently confronts given the way in which it is being implemented and integrated within the scholarly communication system (you can access his presentation slides here)
We want to thank the UISYS for such an interesting and needed event, we hope we can collaborate again soon! Until then, we hope you enjoy the pictures we took:
