Hello there! The European Summer School for Scientometrics (ESSS) is back for its 2025 edition! The ESSS offers high-quality training and state-of-the-art insights into scientometrics, covering methods, procedures, indicators, and the leading database products used in scientometric analysis. The program combines theoretical knowledge with its practical application in various contexts ranging from research to the provision of scientific policy advice to research evaluation.
The ESSS focuses on the main elements of scientometrics: data (Monday), indicators (Tuesday), visualization and networks (Wednesday) and practice (Friday). Moreover, every year, the school evolves. Not only in terms of location, but also in the focus for the Topic Day (Thursday). This year, the ESSS will take place in the beautiful city of Granada and the Topic Day will focus on Responsible Metrics, a timely subject in light of the CoARA and DORA declarations.
Several EC3 members will be actively involved. As listed in the programme, Elvira González-Salmón will give a talk on the main bibliometric data sources and Nicolas Robinson-Garcia will speak about Altmetrics and Open Science. Later, Nicolas Robinson-Garcia and Daniel Torres-Salinas will explain the principles of evaluative bibliometrics in the CoARA/DORA context and, last but not least, Wenceslao Arroyo-Machado will participate in a roundtable focused on practical insights into bibliometric services.
The school is designed for researchers, particularly PhD candidates and early-career scholars, research managers, librarians and information scientists with a professional interest in science and technology indicators and their application.
